چکیده

The circulatory system is made up of the heart and blood vessels. There are 3 major types of blood vessels: arteries, veins, and lymphatics. The heart is the pumping organ and helps to push oxygenand nutrient-rich blood through the arteries to the organs and the limbs. The veins return blood from the organs and limbs to the heart so that it can be resupplied with oxygen from the lungs. The lymphatics connect with the veins and help to return fluid from tissues and skin. This article focuses on a disorder of the arteries known as fibromuscular dysplasia.

Background: Renal artery stenosis, which is defined as narrowing of one or both renal arteries or their branches, is one of the most common causes of secondary hypertension. The majority of renal vascular lesions show either fibromuscular dysplasia or atherosclerosis. Fibromuscular dysplasia is a common cause of renovascular hypertension in younger patients, and 90% of patients are young wome...

Intimal Fibromuscular Dysplasia of Renal Artery: A Rare Case of Hypertension

Hypertension has a long list of primary as well as secondary causes. Fibromuscular dysplasia is amongst the rare secon dary causes of hypertension. Intimal fibroplasia as a pathologic cause occurs in less than 10% of patients with fibromuscular dysplasia. We report a rare case of hypertension due to intimal fibromuscular dysplasia of renal artery, treated successfully with renal angioplasty an...

Etiologic factors in renovascular fibromuscular dysplasia. A case-control study.

The role of several factors that have been suggested as being of etiologic importance in renovascular fibromuscular dysplasia was examined in a case-control study of 33 patients with angiographically demonstrated fibromuscular dysplasia and 61 renal transplant donor control subjects with normal renal arteries. The factors studied included use of oral contraceptive agents or markers of sex hormo...

Fibromuscular dysplasia of the renal artery as a cause of secondary hypertension.

Fibromuscular dysplasia is an uncommon cause of secondary hypertension. When the resulting hypertension cannot be successfully treated with medications, balloon angioplasty has been shown to be successful by disrupting the "webs" of tissue in the renal artery. We present a case of secondary hypertension due to fibromuscular dysplasia and the successful treatment with balloon angioplasty.

A case of type A aortic dissection with underlying fibromuscular dysplasia.

Fibromuscular dysplasia is a rare, non-atherosclerotic non-inflammatory vascular disease that most commonly involves the renal arteries and carotid arteries, but has been described in nearly every vascular bed in the body. Complications of fibromuscular dysplasia include aneurysms and vascular dissection. We present a rare case of fibromuscular dysplasia involving the aorta, complicated by type...
